Family Shinny

Associates and Members (No Reservations Needed)

A fun opportunity for youth to practice hockey skills and engage in full ice cooperative, non-contact game of shinny. Adults must always supervise children on the ice. Limit of 3 children per adult. Available for associates, members, and retirees. Children cannot be carried on ice. All visitors must sign in at the front desk before going into dressing rooms. All participants must be wearing a full CSA approved ice hockey equipment for shinny programs. Full Hockey equipment includes neck guard, mouth guard, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, jock/jill, hockey pants, shin pads, hockey jersey, hockey socks, CSA-approved hockey helmet with a cage, hockey skates, and hockey stick.

To ensure a safe, enjoyable environment for Family Shinny programs, all users are required to observe the following guidelines.

 

Family Shinny Hockey Guidelines

Ages 7 to 11 with Accompanying Adults 18+ years old

  • Family Shinny is an opportunity for families (children ages 7 years old to 11 years old and supervising adults 18+ years old) to practice basic hockey skills and engage in full ice cooperative shinny game play.

  • Family Shinny requires that children 7 years old to 11 years old be accompanied by a supervising adult (18+ years old). Each adult may supervise up to three children and must be accompanying a child aged 7 to 11 years. It is required that visitors/spectators are always with children and cannot use the fitness equipment

  • All participants must wear full CSA approved ice hockey equipment for shinny programs. Full Hockey equipment includes neck guard, mouth guard, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, jock/jill, hockey pants, shin pads, hockey jersey, hockey socks, CSA-approved hockey helmet with a cage, hockey skates, and hockey stick.

  • Participants will be required to add their first and last name to a sign-in list during admissions, for the purpose of verifying attendance. 

  • No contact.

  • Every 60 minutes of ice time includes 50 minutes of play and a 10-minute flood.

 

Ages 12+

  • During program, Family Shinny players aged 12+ will be required to add their first and last name to the sign in sheet each day, for the purpose of verifying attendance.

  • No contact.

  1. A sign-in sheet is available at the front desk, which must be signed by guests upon each visit.

  2. All children entering the facility MUST be accompanied by an Associate or current member.

  3. Associates are responsible to ensure that all guests are signed in.

  4. Associates must arrange for proper care for children while at the Honda Recreation Centre. Failure to do so will result in the Associate being removed from the event they are participating in.

 

Children 12 years and under:

  • Must be supervised by an adult at all times.

 

Children 13 to 17 years of age:

  • Are permitted to view programs without adult supervision.

  • Must remain seated in the stands while viewing. If the child leaves the stands, wanders the facility, or disrupts others, the Associate will be removed from the program and be asked to supervise the child or leave the facility altogether.

  • Are not permitted to supervise other children.

               

Children 18 years and above:

  • Are permitted to supervise younger children.
